Speaker: Michael Hogan, Penn Vet
Title: New Frontiers in mRNA Vaccines
Abstract: We will explore why mRNA vaccines were a perfect choice to combat COVID-19, what hurdles must be overcome to apply the technology to other diseases like HIV and cancer, and how the platform can also be adapted to protect pets and wildlife.
Speaker Bio: Mike Hogan’s lab at PennVet is broadly interested in understanding the mechanisms of immunity to viral infections and applying these lessons to the development of mRNA vaccines against novel targets. Dr. Hogan completed his postdoctoral training in the lab of Ike Eisenlohr (antigen presentation) and did his PhD studies with Jim Hoxie (HIV) and Drew Weissman (mRNA vaccines).
Location: Amy Gutmann Hall, Room 414 (Penn), and via Zoom (email Annie for link)
Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees at Penn (please bring your own drinks)!
